Radiant Green Smoothie

Yum

I recently started practicing Kundalini and am really enjoying this style of yoga. It incorporates mantras, chants, breathing exercises, and asanas and is very different than other styles of yoga that I have tried. Honestly, it seems kind of weird but is having a noticeable positive impact on me beyond the mat, which is awesome.  There are a few channels on YouTube with free videos to try and I really like the ones on the YouTube channel Kundalini Lounge. In researching this style of yoga, I came across a Website and found some tips on incorporating a yogic diet. This smoothie recipe caught my eye and I recently tried it, and with a few additional ingredients of my own, I absolutely fell in love with this breakfast. The healthy oils keep me full and the combination of the fruits with the spinach and chlorophyll is just so good! I had never tried chlorophyll before, but it is mellow in flavor and brings all the goodness of plant foods to you in a concentrated form - so cool!

Copycat Frappuccino

Yum
In the summer, iced coffee or frappuccinos from Starbucks are such a treat. I wanted to create a vegan version of a frappuccino to make at home, and am thrilled with the results. I plan to have coffee ice cubes on hand at all times to whip one of these up when the mood strikes.

Frappuccino

Ingredients:

12 coffee ice cubes (pour fresh brewed coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze)
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup soy milk
Vegan whipped cream (optional - I love So Delicious Coco Whip)

Directions:

Put all the ingredients (except the whipped cream) into a high powered blender and blend. Top with the whipped cream if you would like.

For one drink. Nutritional information from caloriecount.about.com. Calories are without the whipped topping, so you will need to factor that in if you add it.

Strawberry Limeade Slushy

Yum

It is feeling like summer in Colorado. We are loving the warmer weather and all that goes with it....gardening, evening walks, and summer foods! My son and I consumed many many of these last summer. We loved the tart-sweet combination of lime and strawberry and found this to be a perfect light afternoon snack. Now that it is warmer, the love for this drink is back in full force.

Strawberry Limeade Slushy

Ingredients:

1 cup crushed ice
1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries (about 5 medium sized berries)
2 tbsp lime juice
1-2 tbsp agave nectar (we do one, but we like these tangy)
1/2 - 3/4 cup water

Directions:

Put the ice, strawberries, lime juice, sweetener, and 1/2 cup of water in a high-powered blender and blend away. You may need to add a bit more water if it gets bogged down, and you may have to scrape down the sides a bit. We got a Nutri Ninja last year and it blends these up no problem. I love that thing. It makes a very smooth drink like a slurpee from 7-11...yum!
